Lorraine Margaret (Curtin) Jansen was born in Menasha, WI. Her parents were John Daniel Curtin and Anna (Weyers) Curtin. She married Martin J. Jansen, Jr. of Kimberly, WI who she was introduced to by her brother. She was proud of being part of a farming family.
Lorraine attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Menasha, and then graduated from Menasha High School. A life-long learner, she attended Columbia Nursing School in Milwaukee prior to her marriage. She achieved an Associate Degree from Fox Valley Technical College, and graduated with honors from Milwaukee Area Technical College in computer-related technologies.
She had a generous heart, and a long habit of giving to Catholic charities which provide aid and advocacy for those in need. She loved art and music, strengthening the community, and environmental issues, and her house was filled with books. She never missed an election and was always happy to debate current issues with family and friends, and proudly collected “I Voted” stickers on her walker in later years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, who was deeply loved and always missed after his untimely death in 1968, and who inspired the rose that is carved on their gravestone. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, James Curtin, as well as her husband’s siblings: Archie, Tillie, Ann, Dorothy, and Patrick.
She is survived by her children: Martin J. Jansen, III; Karen A. Jansen; Daniel E. Jansen; and by her granddaughter, Lauren R. Jansen. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary J. Curtin of Bayfield, WI, and by numerous nieces and nephews from her and her late husband’s extended families.
