Lorenz J. Mayer<br>“Corn”<br>Kaukauna<br>Age 91, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday July 5, 2007. He was born on September 16, 1915, in Mankato, Minnesota, to the late Lorenz and Anna (Huettl) Mayer. The family of nine came by train from Mankato in 1921 to Kaukauna where he remained the rest of his days. Corn was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School and Kaukauna High School, class of 1933. He married Helen Walsh on November 26, 1935, and the celebrated 67 years together. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2003. He was employed at Thilmany Papers as a Master Machinist retiring in 1977. He was commissioned during WWII to hand tool parts for tanks for our armed forces over seas. He was a member of the Thilmany Quarter Century Club where he served as President in 1966. Corn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He was a charter member of the original Fox Valley Golf Club. During his remarkable golf career, he scored three holes in one and captured many club championships and awards. When the “fat man” teed up the ball it flew long and straight.<br><br>Corn will be remembered by his family as a loving kind hearted man who was fondly referred to as “Pup” by all of his grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids. His quick wit and wonderful humor will be treasured by his many friends and family.<br>Corn is survived by his children: Nancy (Joddy) Jansen, Kaukauna, David L. “Bud” (Janis) Mayer, Wrightstown; and Marlene Stuiber (special friend Dan Sullivan), Combined Locks; his grandchildren: James (Lois) Jansen, Scot (Cindy) Jansen, Jay (Amy) Jansen, Brad (Julie) Mayer, Lynn (Eric) Mayer-Hunner, Vicki Anschutz, Susan (Kevin) Gosse; great grandchildren: Jamie (Ben), Eric (special friend Kimberly), Jeff (Kim), Randy (Kristy), Katie, Kyle, Chad, Lacey, Riley, Kyle, Ethan, Keane, Kayla, Krista, Jordan, and Abby; great great grandchildren: Ashli, Bradley, Trey, Logan, Gavyn, Braylon, and Wesley. He is also survived by a sister in law Mary Walsh. Corn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, a son in law Ken Stuiber, a grandson, Todd Stuiber a great grandson Ryan Mayer, brothers: Bert (Betty) Mayer, Cornelius (Harriet) Mayer; sisters: Catherine and Clotilda Mayer, Marie (Lyle) McGinnis and Charlotte Zarter. He was also preceded in death by Helen’s family; sisters in laws, Grace (Roy) Lutzow, Doris Lewis and Gladys Keough, brothers in law Harold (Louise) Walsh, and Ralph (Micky) Walsh.<br><br>The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Monday July 9, 2007 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH, at the St. Mary site, 119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.
