A lifetime resident of Appleton, passed away Monday, November 4 after a long series of illnesses. He was born on July 14, 1924, to the late Roy and Frances (Van Erem) Lillge, graduated from Appleton West High School, and was a member of the United States Army during WWII. He was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 38 where he was awarded the Certificate of Continuous Membership for fifty years. Loren was also an active member of the Appleton Elks.
Loren was highly regarded in the automobile business for 45 years. He was employed by Sherry Motors as General Sales Manager, then with Van Steen Ford, and completed his career with Meiers Rudolf Lincoln Mercury.
He was the devoted husband of Elaine (Hartzheim) Lillge for 56 beautiful years. Loren is survived by his four children; Mark (Georgia), Drew (Minnie), Mary Brock (Dick), and Kevin (Patty). His grandchildren: Justin, Andy, Jason, Ashley, Ross, Katie, Brittany and Maria will miss him deeply. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Anna Hartzheim, his brother-in-law, Jack (Dee) Hartzheim, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roger, his father-in-law, Victor Hartzheim, his aunt Elsie, and nephews Gary Lillge and Kurt Hartzheim.
Loren was a member of St. Therese Church in Appleton for his entire life and acted as an usher for many years. He was an avid golfer, Packer fan, and enjoyed playing cards and bowling.
His greatest joy in life was caring for his family, especially his grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 9, 2002, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Morrison Street at Wisconsin Avenue, with Father William Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, from 4-7 pm, Friday and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be held at 6:00 pm Friday. An American Legion and VFW visitation will be held at 6:30 pm Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund with the Heart Institute at Appleton Medical Center.
Your family will forever miss your love, strength, and devotion. You were always there to help and support each one of us. There was never a time we couldn’t count on you to be there for us. You were a role model for your family and we will miss and love you for the rest of our lives.
