Lois C. Unmus, age 93, left this earth to meet her Savior on January 31, 2023, surrounded by her family and their love. She was born July 18, 1929, to Norbert and Lenora (Schmidt) Beimborn in the town of Glenmore, Shirley, WI. Lois was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shirley. Following high school, she moved to Milwaukee where she worked at Briggs and Stratton. On May 28, 1949, she married Elroy Umnus the love of her life. 8 years living in Morrison brought the couple two children. A move to Allouez in 1985 then led them to move to Appleton to finish raising their family.
Lois worked for Fox Valley Lutheran High School in the food service department for 25 years. Lois and Elroy moved to their cottage in Mountain, WI and eventually moving to Homosassa Springs, FL. In 2014, the couple returned to Appleton to be closer to her family. In 2017, Elroy left his beloved, and Lois then moved to Country Villa.
Lois enjoyed baking and was known by her family for her German potato salad (a recipe she guarded nearly til the end), and also loved to spend time fishing with Elroy and doing puzzles.
Lois is survived by two children; Paulette Thomas of Appleton, and Mark (Renee) Umnus, of De Pere, grandchildren; Holly (Rev Timothy) Glende, Adam (Kris) Thomas and Hillary Evans, four great grandchildren; Miranda (Zach) Flunker, Noah (fiancée Lindsay) Glende and Brecken and Stella Thomas, as well as great great grandchildren: Amos and Ada. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Gladys Umnus and many nieces of nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, as well as her brother Robert (Janice) Beimborn and granddaughter Faith. She is further preceded by her parents-in-law Art and Hilda Umnus, and brother-in-law Dale Umnus.
A funeral service for Lois will be held Monday February 6, 2023, at 11:00am at St Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until the start of the service. Lois will be entombed at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
