Lois M. Mueller, age 77, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018. She was born on June 5, 1940 to the late Robert A. and Louise A. (Harms) Goetsch in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
Lois graduated Plymouth High School in 1958 and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning her Bachelor’s degree in 1963. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, where she earned her Master’s in Speech & Language Pathology.
Lois married Ross A. Mueller on June 20, 1964 in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Together they were blessed with their two children, Nathan and Lisa.
Lois was active in a number of professional organizations: Wisconsin Speech & Hearing Association, past president. The American Speech & Hearing Association, Legislative Councilor. Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, Administrative Surveyor. She received “Outstanding Service” award-Wisconsin Speech & Hearing Association 1987.
She retired as the Director of Rehabilitation Services for Affinity Health Services in 1998 after twenty-five years. Since retirement Lois has enjoyed gardening, traveling to the southern states in the winter and especially time spent with her family.
She enjoyed the continuous spirited computer Scrabble games with her daughter, Lisa, and sister, Jan. Lois spent her quite time knitting.
Lois is known best for her selflessness, fairness and the ability to sense people’s needs. Family and friends would often consult and confide in Lois. She always rose to the top of every job she ever had. A former co-worker said this when she learned of Lois’s passing, “The Best Mentor I Ever Had”.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Ross A. Mueller of Appleton; her daughter, Lisa (Chris) Ash of Northfield, MN; her son, Nathan of Eagan, MN; her grandchildren, Theo, Caroline and Olivia Ash; her three sisters, Loretta Goetsch of Seattle, WA, Joyce (Mark) Asbury of Green Bay, WI and Janice Goetsch of Glenbeulah, WI and her brother, Mark Goetsch of Plymouth, WI. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other dear relatives.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Goetsch.
The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537, N. Superior Street in Appleton. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service with Pastor Ash officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Lois’s family asks that memorials be made to Wisconsin Public Television or the Nature Conservancy. Online condolences can be shared at: www.wichmannfargo.com.
