Lois Sonnenberg, age 85, was called to the waiting arms of Jesus on Thursday evening, February 1, 2018. Lois was born in Appleton on October 28, 1932, daughter of the late Ewald and Elinore (Olm) Greve. She married Alvin Sonnenberg at Mount Olive Lutheran Church on June 9, 1956; the couple was blessed by the births of two children and over sixty-one years together. During many of those years, Lois cared for dozens of children in her own home. She was also a longtime and faithful member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton where she had served as church secretary, on the funeral committee, and in various other capacities. Al and Lois very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and have many fond memories of New Year gatherings with the Kolander and Meyer families.
Lois is survived by her loving husband: Al Sonnenberg; two children: Gary (Karen) Sonnenberg of Waukesha and Mary (Randy) Schoenrock of New London; six grandchildren: Wendy (Matthew) Poush, Matthew (Rebecca) Sonnenberg, Drew (Jill) Sonnenberg, Erin (Jeremy) Roesler, Julie Schoenrock, and Brian Schoenrock. She also has three great-grandchildren: Zelda, Linus, and Imogen. Lois also leaves behind a brother: Jerry (Audrey) Greve of Appleton. Other survivors include her in-laws: Erna Dawson, Alice Rogen, Richard Sonnenberg, and Dorothy Sonnenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Jeanette (Alton) Loefer, and in-laws: Northrup Dawson, Arnold Rogen, Lester Sonnenberg, Marilyn Sonnenberg, and Leora (Tom) Bishop.
The Christian Funeral Service for Lois will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at MOUNT OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Troy Schreiner officiating. Interment will take place in Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.
