Age 80, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. He was born in Gresham, WI on September 16, 1922, son of the late Arthur and Matilda (Weber) Schabow. Lloyd married Elayne Ristow on May 26, 1948, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton. They celebrated 55 years of marriage together. Lloyd served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2778, Appleton. As a semi-professional baseball player, Lloyd played for the Appleton Papermakers in 1946 and the Oshkosh Giants in 1942. He obtained the nickname of “Lefty” by being a left-handed pitcher. Further, Lloyd was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Lloyd worked for Zwicker Knitting Mill for 39 proud years.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Elayne, two children: David Schabow of Appleton and Robert (Michele) Schabow and their children Brianna and Conner of Appleton; and a sister, Geraldine (William) Hoffman of Gresham.
He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Stuart (Hatie) Schabow and Arthur Schabow, both from Gresham.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Bob Lexa officiating. Friends will be received at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Friday, July 18, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass on Saturday. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Fr. Michael O’Rourke and Sister Joanne Goessl for their many visits with Lloyd. Further, a special thank you is extended to Judy Witkowski the staff at Affinity Hospice and Nurse Judy Zich, R.N. at St. Elizabeth for their compassionate care.
Memorials will be established for St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton and Affinity Hospice.
