Linus J. Schaefer

Age 82, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2002 at the Appleton Medical Center. Linus was born in Kaukauna on May 16, 1920, son of the late William and Mary (Kraus) Schaefer. He was employed at Giddings and Lewis for thirty years, and later worked for the Kaukauna School District, retiring in 1984. Linus enjoyed fishing, gardening, hooking rugs, and woodworking of all kinds.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years: Frances (nee Walker) Schaefer; four children: Edwin (Jeanne) Schaefer of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; Terrance Schaefer of Green Bay; Nancy Schaefer of Kaukauna; and Lei Ann (Michael) Lewis of Kaukauna; eight grandchildren: Chad Schaefer and his fiancée Eileen Ludwig, Nicole (Scott) Heider, Heather Collette – Van Der Aa, Patrick (Kathy) Schaefer, Mark (Sonya) Schaefer, Matthew (Shoko) Wicke, Maria Lewis, and Bret Lewis; two great-grandsons: Ricky Gasman and Paul Schaefer; a brother: Clayton (Pat) Vanden Broek. Linus was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Henry Vanden Broek, sisters Helen (Vince) Zacharias and Rita (Neil) Vander Pas, and a brother Cletus (Elizabeth) Schaefer.

The funeral liturgy for Linus will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 – 8 PM Wednesday and again at the church on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service.
