Linda Ann Van Berkel Berg, age 68 of Kaukauna, passed away at Cherry Meadows on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Linda was born in Eau Claire on August 11, 1950, daughter of the late James Berg and Shirley Lippolt Berg who still lives in Kaukauna.
Linda loved and was loved generously, specially, deeply and without reservation. She relished her nicknames, including LuLu, Queen Grandma, Baby Whisperer, and the Best Pie Maker. Each grandchild was her favorite, not to be disclosed by them. She hated onions and loved smoking. She was an acquired taste, fiercely independent, bullheaded and intolerant of pretense or bullying. She was a joy and a frustration. She was a beauty inside and out, and a loyal friend.
She bore more than her fair share of pain without much complaint. She was memorable, and fondly so, to her many health care providers. We are especially grateful to Drs. Michael Werner and Robert Ballard for their caring efforts prolonging her life. She is gone from us too soon but is undoubtedly raising a little hell in heaven now.
Linda is survived by her mother: Shirley Berg of Kaukauna; her partner of forty-two years: Paul Van Berkel of Kaukauna; their two daughters: Lisa Portillo and her son Oscar of Kaukauna, and Karen (Paul Ambrosius) Van Berkel of Seymour and their children Jacob, Nathan, Kyra, and Travis. She is also survived by a sister: Trudance (Joe McCarthy) Lindeen of Chippewa Falls, as well as Paul’s five brothers: Joseph (Linda Foster) Van Berkel of Baraboo, Thomas (Mary) Van Berkel of Roseville, MN, Daniel (Marion) Van Berkel of Buchanan, William (Lynn) Van Berkel of Little Chute, and Douglas (Judy) Van Berkel of Wisconsin Rapids. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Linda was preceded in death by her father, James Berg, her brother, David Berg and her grandson, Angelo Portillo.
A memorial service for Linda will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue in Kaukauna, with Rev. Mary Bauer officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of the memorial service.
Please consider St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity dear to you rather than flowers.
