Johnson, Lillie E.
Lillie E. Johnson, age 97, died Friday morning, July 29, 2005, at Peabody Manor, surrounded by family. She was born July 9, 1908, to the late Claus and Hulda (Johnson) Carlson, in Comstock, WI. Lillie and Raymond lived in Balsam Lake from 1932 to 1937 where Ray was principal at Balsam Lake High School. They moved to Manitowoc in 1938 where she resided until 1997, when she moved to Appleton to be near family.
Lillie was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. At fourteen years of age her mother died and Lillie helped raise her sisters and baby brother. Lillie and Raymond were married for 64 years. She made home a refuge, snug and secure – a place for her family to return and be refreshed all of their lives. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and baked cookies galore for them.
Lillie believed and lived her faith and as a result was very active in her congregations, First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Appleton. She served as head of the Altar Guild, Bible Study Circle and was involved in Sewing Club, Ladies Aid and the Prayer Chain.
Survivors include two sons, Loren and Peggy Johnson, Centuria, WI Roger and Leah Johnson, Menasha, WI; seven grandchildren, Tony (Heidi), Dan (April), Scott (Tina), Tanya (Eldon) Tendrup, Tara (Brandon) Johnson, Douglas (Mary), Milaena (Brent) Reade; 19 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a sister, Millie Carlson, Cumberland, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond J. Johnson in 1997, her son Reverend David W. Johnson in 1991, three sisters and a brother.
Funeral services for Lillie will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 East Calumet Street, Appleton, with Reverend Roger McQuistion officiating. Entombment will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Manitowoc. Friends may call at the church, on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
