Lilas H. Dohr
“Lil”
Age 85, of Appleton passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Renaissance Assisted Living. She was born on November 21, 1919 in Appleton the daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Flesch) Dohr. Lilas was employed by the Home Savings and Loan for 35 years until she retired. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Monte Alverno Retreat House Guild. Lilas was also a member of the Resurrection Choir at St. Joseph and St. Mary Churches in Appleton. Lilas enjoyed her monthly get-togethers with her “First Grade” group, her Tuesday morning “Sodality Group”, and a special group of girls and their monthly get-togethers. She was also a volunteer at St. Joseph Food Pantry, and a member of the Fox Valley Women’s Group. Lilas enjoyed traveling, spending her winters in Hawaii, and a cruise once a year. She spent her free time in the summer at the cottage that had been in the family practically all her life.
Lilas is survived by four sisters: Dolores Smith of Clintonville, Rita Veerkamp of Appleton, Marge (Jack) Palmer of Boulder Junction, WI; three brothers Russell Dohr of Greenfield, WI, Carl (Judy) Dohr of Appleton, and Paul (Ellen) Dohr of Salem, South Carolina; and many much loved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Althea Dohr, a brother Robert Dohr, two sisters-in-law Lois and Elaine Dohr, two brothers-in-law Clarence Smith and Norbert Veerkamp; a nephew Peter Smith, and a niece Catherine Perham.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 11:30 AM at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 WEST LAWRENCE STREET in Appleton with the Rev. Larry Abler officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. The family requests that all donations be made to the Robert Dohr and Lilas Dohr Charitable Fund; a designated endowment fund in the Community Foundation.
