LeRoy Rahn passed away on December 29, 2024, after a nine year brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis, three years longer than doctors expected. He was born on July 5, 1935, to Gustave and Erline (nee Hintz) on a farm in rural Black Creek, where his father was also born.
LeRoy graduated from Seymour High School in 1953 where he was introduced to the clarinet. In 1956, LeRoy married Joanne Krueger whom he would be side by side with for the next 68 years. During these years, LeRoy served in the National Guard for 9 years, raised 3 children, Perry, Kathy, and Joleen, and together owned and operated Appleton Electronics Distributor for 23 years. In 2001, they sold their business, bought a 5th wheel camper and truck and jetted across the country and parts of Canada to see the sites, family, and friends while keeping their home and attending family events for their children and grandchildren. LeRoy and Joanne also volunteered their time to help restore the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina.
LeRoy enjoyed working hard, tinkering with electronics and projects, and spending time with his family on annual camping trips with the Krueger Krew. The couple also attended many dances where they danced polka and waltzes with family members and friends.
Also in retirement, LeRoy picked up the clarinet again after a near 50-year hiatus and joined the New Horizons Band. He made music and volunteered his time with them until his lungs said "no more" His heart never tuned out his love of music!
His other love in his life was his steady and never ceasing love of God, his heavenly Father. He taught his family about Jesus and shared it with everyone, even to the end with people at the care facility. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for the entirety of his married life where he ushered, counted money, helped keep the grounds beautiful, and faithfully attended with his family.
He will be forever held dear by his wife, Joanne, their three children: Perry Rahn, Kathy (Dennis) Evers, and Joleen (Joe) Bratz; three grandchildren Brad (Christina) Evers, Wes (Tara) Evers, and Lacey Bratz. He was also a proud great grandfather to Brad and Christina’s children, Eli, Caroline, and Amalie, who was recently born on LeRoy’s birthday. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother Don (Joyce) Rahn, sisters-in-law Lois Barth, Cheri Krueger, and Sharon (Tom) Smith, aunt Verna McGlin, and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joanne's parents, as well as others in her family.
The Christian Funeral Service for LeRoy will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, located at 601 E. Glendale Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Daniel Thews officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will take place at church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring angels that looked over LeRoy. Everyone at AseraCare Hospice and Heartwood Homes was filled with care and compassion. We will never forget your kindness.
