Leone E. Flenz, age 77, of Appleton, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born April 25, 1928, in Nichols, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Loretta (Liesch) Fahrenkrug. Leone was a 1946 graduate of Appleton High School, and following graduation became employed for Wisconsin Michigan Power Company (now WE Energies). While working at the power company she met Richard J. “Dick” Flenz and they were later united in marriage on August 9, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton. Leone and Dick were blessed with five children, and Leone was a stay at home mother, while Dick continued working for the power company. In 1970, Leone began working at Mrs. Karl’s Bakery, and retired from the bakery in 1988. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts, and was a polling volunteer for local elections. Dick and Leone were members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and Leone was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Day Break singers, and her greatest love was the time she enjoyed with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Richard J. Flenz, of Appleton; her children, Janice M. (Gary) Shaw, of Kimberly, Mary Ann (James) Langlois, of Appleton, Donna J. Flenz, of Tucson, Ariz., Bonnie L. (Robert) Darrow, of Green Bay, and Donald J. (Debra) Flenz, of Little Chute. Her grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Jezeski, Erik (fiance’- Kelly) Shaw, Nicole (Scott) Boesch, Daniel (Sara) Langlois, Jennifer (John) Heimann, Brett (fiance’-Sara) Terrien, Andrew (Chris) Flenz, Donald R. (Amy) Flenz, and Jill (Craig) Baumeister; there are 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Adeline (Rev. Warren) Pechman and Dorothy (Rev. James) Seiffert, all of Oregon; and nieces and nephews. Leone was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Alice Fahrenkrug, and her father and mother-in-law, Albert and Anna Flenz.

Funeral services for Leone will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 North Meade Street, Appleton. Rev. Dennis Ellisen will officiate. Entombment will take place in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of services directly at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leone’s name may be sent to St. Elizabeth Hospital, c/o Pediatric Unit, 1506 South Oneida Street, Appleton, WI, 54915, because of her love of children.
