Age 98, went to her Eternal Home on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Appleton Medical Center. Leona was born on October 9, 1903, in Appleton to the late Ferdinand and Wilhelmena (Kirk) Brueggeman. She married Emil Born in Appleton in 1937; he preceded her in death on November 26, 1953. Leona was a lifelong member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and volunteered her services, calling on shut-in members of the church and assisting the church cashiers as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed playing sheepshead and other card games. Leona is survived by her special cousin and Godchild, Betty (Jim) Cutler and her two daughters, Karen (Bill) Drecktrah and Casey (Kyle) Korth; Geraldine LaBore, with whom she was now making her home, and her daughter Jan (Paul) Domke, as well as other cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise. Funeral services will be held on at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2001, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in her name.
