Lawrence Martin Wierzba

November 11, 1935 — March 12, 2021

Lawrence Martin Wierzba, loving father, husband, and devoted family man, earned eternal rest on March 12, 2021 at age 85. He passed away peacefully at his home in Menasha, Wis. after a short illness, with his daughter by his side.

Lawrence was born on Nov. 11, 1935 in the Town of Stockton, Wis. to his parents Ernest and Esther (Ropella) Wierzba. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, Wis. in 1954. On Feb. 7, 1959, he married his wife, Catherine (Groshek), and they welcomed their daughter, Barbara, later that year. The family moved to Menasha, Wis., and Lawrence took a job at George A. Whiting Paper Company, where he’d work for almost 40 years before retiring.

In his free time, Lawrence loved fishing on his boat for bass and bluegill, watching his grandsons play sports, listening to Bob Uecker call baseball on the radio, attending Menasha High School football games with family, and growing tomatoes in his garden. As a Green Bay Packers shareholder, he looked forward to making the trip to the Shareholders’ Meeting at Lambeau Field each summer.

Lawrence also enjoyed traveling the country with his wife on bus tours, caring for his yard with his John Deere “tractor”, and spending lots of time with all his family members, teaching everyone phrases in Polish and maybe even dancing a little polka.

He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Menasha, volunteering his time to help clean the church and assist at parish events.

He is survived by his siblings David (Gail), Joann (Keith) Schultz, and Karen (Jerry) Studzinski, his daughter, Barbara (Mickey) Roeland, his grandsons Steven (Leanne) Roeland and Patrick (Alix) Roeland, great-grandchildren Ezra and Thea Roeland, and many nieces and nephews, five of whom were his godchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, and his sister, Arlene.

The family thanks the hospice care workers who helped look after and take care of Lawrence in his final days.
