LaVerne M. Mantei, age 85, of Combined Locks, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, September 27, 2007, at Parkside Care Center. She was born September 12, 1922, to the late William and Mildred (Guetschow) Horn, in Appleton. On November 16, 1946, LaVerne married Alton Mantei, of Kimberly, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hyde, Michigan, with her brother-in-law, Pastor A. A. Schabow officiating. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survivors include her three children, Merlin (Sue) Mantei, Combined Locks; Steven (Barbara) Mantei, Combined Locks; Amy (Tom) Wendel, Kimberly; nine grandchildren, Kris (Brad) Gegare, Sherwood; Lori (Pat) Wolff, Waupaca; April (Bill) Keil, Appleton; Jeffrey (Jamie) Mantei, Darboy: Chad, and Lindsey Mantei, Combined Locks; Stephanie, Jeremy and Justin Wendel, Kimberly; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Enid Schabow, Appleton; a brother, Ronald (Marilyn) Sternagel, Appleton; a brother-in-law, Gene Sedo, Appleton. Also many very dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Alton, in 1994, a dear step-father, Otto Sternagel, a brother Rueben Horn- U. S. Navy, a sister, Ellen (Sternagel) Sedo. Funeral services for LaVerne will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, with Reverend Paul Brinkman officiating. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
