Age 87, died Monday, March 28, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. LaVern was born on June 12, 1916, in the Town of Green Valley to the late George and Inga (Wahl) Swenson. He was a master cheesemaker and cheese broker for over 54 years. He owned and operated the Fox River Dairy in Eureka; the Cadott Cheese Factory; and later was manager of the Black Creek-Alto Cooperative Creamery. LaVern was a member of the Berlin Lions Club, the Sons of Norway, enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, and was an avid Packer fan. He married June Schneider on June 29, 1940; she preceded him in death in 1967. LaVern married Bernice Hartung on March 26, 1971; she preceded him in death on December 3, 2003. Survivors include his daughter, Karen Ann Swenson, Elgin, Illinois; his step-son Dick (Donna) Hartung, Appleton; his granddaughter Kathy (Timothy) Kramer, Darboy; his grandson, Mark (Cami) Hartung, Sussex; his granddaughter, Patty (Terry) Chomniak, Pewaukee; his great grandchildren, Jessica, Allison, Emily, Adam and Matthew; his brother, Robert E. (Willa) Swenson, Jeffersonville, Indiana; his step-brother-in-law, Raymond Bentz, Appleton; his sister-in-law, Mildred Swenson, Roswell, New Mexico; his brother-in-law, Donald (Betty) Schneider, Oshkosh; his sisters-in-law, Marge Swenson, Florida and Angie Swenson, Niles, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his brother Harris Swenson, his sister, Bernice I. (Charles) Elliott, his brother, Melvin Swenson and his brother, Elroy (Eileen) Swenson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2004, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, with Rev. J. Christian Quello officiating. Friends may call directly at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will take place in Lakeview Memorial Park, Oshkosh. A memorial has been established in LaVern’s name to benefit the American Lung Association. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Gardens of Fountain Way for their loving care.
