Larry “LC” Connell, age 78, of Kaukauna, passed away on March 5, 2025 after a short illness. Larry was born on June 10, 1946 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. On June 10, 1964 he turned 18, graduated high school and signed a major league baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher. He moved to Appleton area in 1965 to play ball with the Fox Cities Foxes. He met his wife of 60 years on his first day in Appleton at The Elks Club and they were united in marriage on November 6, 1965. He was employed for many years with the Appleton Recreation Department until his retirement. Larry was an avid sports fan and could play and excel at almost any sport. Baseball, softball, basketball, bowling, pool and golf. He could do it all. He loved his family. He loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and was proud to be a great-grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley, his daughter, Kelly Biese, 2 granddaughters Sabryna Biese and Emily Biese, great-grandchild Gentry Lee, sister Susie Landry, sisters-in-law Joy (Lenny) Peterson and Linda Wiegand as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a loving thank you to Larry’s niece “Bethy” who Larry called his godsend.
He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor, brother-in-law Charlie Landry, Shirley’s parents Edwin Johnson and Wava Vollmer and Shirley’s brother Adolph Johnson and his beloved dogs Waffles and Scruffy.
There will be a memorial service on Friday March 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Wichmann Funeral Homes, Tri County Chapel on Oneida Street. There will be a visitation on Thursday March 13, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
