Kermit Joseph Coenen, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022, at the Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. Kermit was born on May 19, 1933, in Kaukauna, son of the late Raymond and Lorinda (Turkow) Coenen. Kermit was united in Christian marriage to Joan Bungert on September 24, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Ellington, WI.
Kermit was a hard-working man who enjoyed making maple syrup and gardening. He and Joan volunteered with WELS Builders for Christ, traveling to multiple states building churches. Kermit and his family also enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Lake Lucerne. He was guided by his faith which led him to be a generous, kind neighbor, that was committed to his family. Kermit was a social butterfly and knew someone almost everywhere he went.
Kermit is survived by his children: Jeffery (Katie) Coenen, Tamra Coenen, and Jonathan (Christine) Coenen; grandchildren: Patrick (Charlotte) Coenen, Megan (Parker) Nabbefeld, Molly (fiancé Chase Groff) Coenen, and Maria Coenen. He is further survived by his siblings: Kenneth Coenen and Linda (Gene) Koponen; in-laws: Phyllis Jentz, Fred (Bonnie) Bungert, and Rosie Coenen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Joan Coenen; his parents; his father and mother in-law: Alfred and Elsie Bungert; as well as brothers: Donald (Joanne) Coenen and Duane Coenen; brother-in-law: Earl Jentz; sister-in-law: Lois Coenen; and infant grandson: Justin.
A private family service at Mount Olive Lutheran Church will be held.
