Age 82, died early Wednesday morning, May 16, 2001. He was born August 22, 1918, to the late Thomas and Emma (Puls) Day, in Appleton where he was a resident all of his life. Ken graduated from Appleton High School and served with the U. S. Navy during WW II. He had been employed by Soo Line Railroad for over 30 years retiring at the age of 62. He was a long-standing member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He devoted many hours volunteering at both his church and St. Joseph Food Pantry. Ken was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his six children, Donald (Joan) Day, Waterloo, IA; Dianne Heinritz, Winneconne, and her fiance Gordon Saron; Patricia Dengel, Appleton; Barbara (Michael) Muth, Hubertus; Paul (Ann) Day, Waukesha; Alan (Eileen) Day, Mequon; grandchildren, Colleen (Neal) Wiechman, Billings MT; Kristin Day, Waterloo IA; Kevin (Mollie) Day, Iowa City, IA; Kelly Day, Billings MT; Jessica Heinritz and her fiance, Steve Palm, Portland, OR; Jonathan Heinritz, Winneconne; Amy and Nathan Dengel, Appleton; Jeffrey and Eric Muth, Hubertus; Megan and Allison Day, Waukesha; Madeline and Emma Day, Mequon; great grandchildren, Konner and Kolton Wiechman; four sisters-in-law, Kate Day, DePere; Florence Van Zummeren, Appleton; Lorraine Hermsen, Green Bay; Esther Schnese, Kimberly; and a brother-in-law, Norman (Bess) Pleier, Appleton. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie H. Day, on June 13, 1997, a son-in-law, Thomas Heinritz, three brothers, Alton, Harold and Stanley Day and a sister Vivian Melcher.
The funeral liturgy for Kenneth will be held at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, at 10:30 am, Friday, May 18, 2001, with Father John Holly officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Thursday and on Friday at the church from 9:00 am, until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be at 7:45 pm, Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial funds have been established for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
