De Deker, Kenneth Henry
12/10/1929 – 8/18/2006
Our Fallen Hero
Kenneth passed away in his Appleton home on Friday, August 18, 2006 where he has spent the last 41 years of his life providing for his family. He was born December 10, 1929, the son of Henry and Hazel DeDeker. Ken married Jeanne DeHertog following their meeting at an Armistice Day Parade in Antwerp Belgium in 1953. Ken was a veteran of World War II and The Korean War. Over the past six years he has documented and published the chronicles of his wife’s heroism during the war in his book; “Jeannecke”. A book that he wrote to leave some remembrance of their mother to all his boys.
Ken spent many days with his children and grandchildren in the woodlands and waters of northeastern Wisconsin. There were not many walleye runs or hunting seasons that Ken missed. Even in his last years he could be found on a cool fall morning in the cornfields hunting Canadian Geese with his boys. He will be remembered for the countless hours that he labored during the days to get home and spend time with his family. The traditions that he passed on will be a legacy for which he will always be known. Ken was a proud man who loved to share in the accomplishment of all in his life. His boisterous laugh will always be heard by those who loved him.
Ken is survived by his sons: Greg, Mark (Cathy), Chris, Dan (Christine) De Deker; grandchildren: Derrick, Brandon, John, Jim, Quinn and Tristin; great grandson, Parker; brother, Dennis De Deker and sister, Connie Peters and many others he served with. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jeanne De Deker and many veteran heroes.
