Age 87, died at Franciscan Care and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, April 8, 2006. He was born in Appleton on May 10, 1918, son of the late Arthur and Anna (Van Dinter) Schnese. He was a native of Kimberly and graduated from Kimberly High School. On May 10, 1941 he married his wife of 46 years, Alvina H. Bretthauer, who preceded him in death on April 26, 1988. Ken served as a member of the United States Army, 101st Airborne. He was involved in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart in Holland and various other medals. Ken served as a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Catholic Order of Foresters. His interests included playing cards, bowling, the Packers, the Cubs, and being an avid golfer; even scoring a “hole in one”, witnessed by Monsignor Carl Steiner.

Ken is survived by his children: Kenneth (Betty) Schnese, Jr. of Darboy, Sue (Gary) Wankey of Little Chute, Sandra (Al) Paltzer of Mackville, Curt (Doris) Schnese of Menasha, and Michelle (Kevin) Dolan of Kaukauna; grandchildren: Tina and Scott (Amy); great granddaughter, Emma; step-grandchildren: Kim, Shari, Jodi, Tom, Tina, Deanna, Lester and Justin; step-greatgrandchildren: Stephanie, Nicole, Courtney, Trevor, Sasha, Kassandra, Caitlin, Corey and Sean; sister, Priscilla (John) Vosters of Kimberly; brothers: Carl Schnese of Black River Falls and Larry Schnese of Kaukauna; sisters-in-law: Jackie Bretthauer and Esther Schnese; brother-in-law, Don and (Eunice) Bretthauer; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alvina; daughter, Mary Jean, his parents; and two brothers: Flavian in WWII and Marv 1998.

The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, Kimberly Campus, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the vigil service at 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly, with a military honors service conducted by the American Legion, Urban Klister Post 436, Wrightstown.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Ken’s name is being established.

The family extends a very special thank you to the staff at Franciscan Care Center and to Dr. Elmer and his nurse, Nancy, and to Dr. Blanc for their compassionate care.
