Kendil McLaren Shreve, age 85, of Appleton, died on the 11th of October 2020 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Kendil was born on March 19, 1935, in Dumont, Iowa, to the late Myrle R. Shreve and Lila D. (McLaren) Shreve. Following his graduation from Teachers College High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956. He was stationed in Austria and Germany as an X-Ray Technician. In 1960 he completed a course in Accounting and Business Management at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. For many years Kendil was the Director of Materials Management at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton.
He had served in the same capacity at Frederick Hospital, Frederick, Maryland and St. Clare Hospital, Monroe, Wisconsin. Kendil also was Purchasing Agent at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was married in 1957 and raised six children while living in Door County, Manitowoc County and Green County. Kendil remarried in 1989 and retired in 1998. His constant companions were his two beautiful cats. Kendil enjoyed yard work, refinishing old pieces of furniture, and he had recently taken up quilting.
Survivors include his wife Wendy, Appleton; five children: Allison Shreve, Madison, Wisconsin; Dana Kolb, Sauk City, Wisconsin; Andrea Deignan, Madison, Wisconsin; Joseph Shreve (Stephanie Haugen), Stoughton, Wisconsin; Peggy Modaff, Fitchburg, Wisconsin; a step-son Michael Welhouse (Melissa Kincannon), Kaukauna; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kendil is survived by one sister: Karla Smallwood, Waterloo, Iowa. Kendil’s father and mother in-law are James and Faith Van Toll; sister in-law is Patti Wolfgram (Gary); Van Toll brothers-in-law: Mike (Karen Vorachek), Jess (Jonna Scovronski), and Andy (Joy). Ken enjoyed a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith Shreve; sisters Kay Bevins, Karen Edwards, Karyl Scragg; daughter Mary Shreve and son Michael Shreve.
Private services will be held at Wichmann Funeral Homes Tri-County Funeral Home, with Rev. Roger and Rev. Amy Bertschausen officiating. The full funeral services for Kendil will be available to view on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2:00 PM through his obituary page on wichmannfuneralhomes.com. A private interment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.
