Kathryn “Kay” M. (Zahn) Elliott, age 85, was called to the loving arms of her Savior on January 29, 2023, after a battle with cancer.
Kay was born in Sturgeon Bay, WI on March 23, 1937, to the late Walter and Estelle (Appel) Zahn of Bailey’s Harbor, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended grade school in Bailey’s Harbor. Kay graduated as valedictorian of her class from Gibraltar High School in 1955. She received a BA degree in education from Carroll University in 1959 and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.
Kay taught 6 years in Mount Prospect, Illinois and 33 years in Kaukauna, WI. She was a member of KEA, WEA, and Kaukauna Professional and Business Women’s Organization.
On June 25, 1983, Kay married John Elliott. They moved to Black River Falls in 1999. Kay was an active member of Little Norway Lutheran Church, part-time organist, and a member of the church council. She sewed quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of Women of Evangelical Church of America (ELCA) and a member of Rebecca Circle. After a return move to the Appleton area, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Appleton. In addition, Kay was the Godmother of Jami Greshay, Gale McEachron and Tracey Tesnow.
Kay enjoyed her feline friends, Munchkin, Ripley, Mrs. Murphy, Rascal and Bella. She enjoyed travel, reading, quilting, playing bridge, working jigsaw puzzles, and living close to her youngest grandson.
She is survived by her husband, John; sons, Samuel (Lisa) Elliott, Hockessin, DE and Steven (Sarah) Elliott, Appleton, WI. She is further survived by a granddaughter, Meagan Larsen; grandsons, Brandon Elliott, Spencer and Gavin Elliott, Hockessin, DE and Lachlan Elliott, Appleton, WI; a sister, Barbara Kobin, Appleton, WI; sisters-in-law, Mary (Bruce) Prall, Fond du Lac, WI and Ann Bear, Milwaukee, WI; special nieces, Jodi Frailing, Appleton, WI and Jami (Thomas) Greshay, Appleton, WI along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very precious sister-friend, Mary Hansen, Black River Falls, WI.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her father and mother in-law, Francis and Marcille Elliott; brother-in-law, Harold Kobin; and nephew Terry Kobin.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Highland Memorial Park Chapel, 3131 N. Richmond St., Appleton, WI 54911. Family and friends may visit at the chapel from 12 PM to the time of service at 2 PM. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
