Kathleen L. Koerner, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at home. She was born on October 10, 1947, in Menasha, the daughter of John and Mary (Grishaber) Michalkiewicz. Kathy was united in marriage to Leon Koerner on November 21, 1970, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Menasha. She enjoyed reading, crafting, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, feeding and watching the birds. Kathy and Leon enjoyed traveling; especially to Hawaii, Vegas, New York, California, and Niagara Falls, as well as trips to the local casinos. They also spent over 20 years together at their cabin on Dark Lake. Kathy retired from Banta Corporation in 2009, after 18 years with the company. She will be forever remembered as a great cook, for her devotion to her children and grandchildren, and the time she spent attending their sporting events, musical performances, dance recitals, and drama events.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Leon; 4 children: Scott (Holly), Julie (Jim) Lyons, Michelle (Jeff) Anderson, and Sarah Kraft; 9 grandchildren: Anthony and Allison Koerner, Marissa and Cameron Lyons, Seth, Jack, and Luke Anderson, and Ethan and Sadie Kraft; 5 siblings: Ruth Ann (Ed) Schroeder, Tom (Sally) Michalkiewicz, John Michalkiewicz, Judi (Michael) McDowell, and David (Linda) Michalkiewicz; and many other relatives and friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; brother: George Michalkiewicz; sister-in-law: Paula Michalkiewicz; and father- and mother-in-law: Harold and Viola Koerner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, July 29, 2019, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with Fr. John Katamba officiating. Inurnment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will be on Monday at the Church from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the American Heart Association.
