Karen A. Werner, 80, Appleton, died on Friday, July 2, 2021. She was born on July 25, 1940, to the late Leo and Beatrice (Little) Gruber in Appleton. Karen was united in marriage to Donald Werner on October 15, 1960, at St.Therese Catholic Church. She spent most of her life in Appleton and moved to the cabin in Eland in the 90’s returning to Appleton later in life. She was a homemaker who always made Easter the most fun time of the year. Karen took joy in hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt with special prizes to be found in the hidden plastic eggs. She loved to dance, listen to music, take time to enjoy flowers and was happy having dogs as her companion. Karen loved to shop and filling her closet with glitter-adorned, bright-colored clothes. She adored her time spent having brunch with her friends and family at the Golden Basket, especially with Janice, Jean, Greg, Terri and Jeff.
Karen is survived by her is four children, Kim (Mark) Berge, Kari (Kent Kerkhoff) Werner, Jody Werner and Donald (John McClure) Werner; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Rachel), Nicole (Matt), Connor, Scott (Seena), Shanda (Will), Bryce and Jessica (Nick); seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Nixon, William, Collin, Grayson, Xander and Cecelia, her sister and best friend Janice Sommers. She is further survived by her brother-in-law Ronnie (Carole) Werner, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband Don and sister Betty Gruber, brother-in-law Ray Sommers and her cousin Sharon (Tom) Wichman.
Funeral services for Karen will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton. Visitation will be held the night before on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. Visitation will resume at 9:30 AM on Thursday at the church until the time of the service. Interment will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Appleton.
