Julie Ann Short

Julie Ann Short, 74 , of Appleton passed away suddenly on December 23, 2022.  She graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse, WI in 1966 and then went on to Viterbo College where she earned her BA in English.

In 1966, She met the love of her life, Michael Short. They married in La Crosse in 1970 and moved to Appleton where she began her teaching career at Freedom High School. Eight years later, they started their family and were blessed with two daughters, Katherine (Katie) and Elizabeth (Betsy).

Julie is survived by her loving husband, Mike, her 2 daughters and grandchildren Katherine (Jason) Olp, Brody and Julia and Elizabeth (Adam) Akstulewicz Ethan, Reese, Sawyer and Bailey. She is also survived by her Mother Marion Hogdon, six sisters and one brother all of La Crosse area: Sandra (Jim) Allen; Jane (Ed) Ryan, Mary Jo (Tom) Jansky, Bev (Steve) Kellicut, Bill Paulson, Barb (Lloyd) Gleason and Laura (Richie) Reichgelt and many nieces, nephews, great friends and classmates

Her love for shopping, decorating to the gills for the holidays, watching and cheering for all the grandkids play sports, sing at school and church and received honor awards; and spending time with her family was her passion She adored her son-in -laws and their great cooking at our family gatherings. Family is everything and she loved to plan days together, taking all the pictures to post on Facebook to let everyone know just how proud she was. While she left us too soon, she knew she did her job teaching us all how to live life to the fullest, keep an organized home and love fiercely. The rest is up to us to honor her and carry on her traditions.

She is preceded in death by her father Sylvan (Gordy) Paulson, father-in-Law Roscoe Short and mother-in-law Wanda Short and her favorite grand dog, Rookie.

Services will be held at Wichmann Funeral Home on Tues. January 3. Visitation will be from 9am – 11 am with a service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
