Age 73, passed away on Thursday morning, October 13, 2005 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Hawkeye, Iowa on October 31, 1931 the daughter of the late Frank and Laura Miller. On August 12, 1956 she married Eugene Begalske and they shared 49 wonderful years. She graduated as a registered nurse from the University of Iowa in 1956. Julia spent the next 30 years helping others in need as an orthopedic nurse, and later as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She retired from her nursing career in 1993. She shared her love of books by reading to her children and grandchildren, often giving books as gifts. She also enjoyed roses, cooking, country music, and collecting witches. Julia and Eugene hosted an exchange student from Costa Rica and two from Mexico. Julia studied Spanish and enjoyed a number of trips to visit the exchange students and their families.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Eugene, her children, Laurie (Mark) Schlueter, Appleton, David (fiancé Leigh Anderson) Begalske, Appleton, Mark (Bonnie Jo) Begalske, Altoona, WI; grandchildren, Brandon Brotzel and Alex Begalske; sisters, Doris Wilbur and Mary Julian; brother, John Miller; brothers and sisters in law, Edna Miller, Helena (Ray) Schaefer, Walter (Donna) Begalske, Barb (Larry) Daniels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents in law, Gustave and Ella Begalske; brothers, David and Robert Miller; brother in law, Paul Begalske; and her granddaughter, Kendra Jo Brotzel.
Funeral services for Mrs. Begalske will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street, with Rev. Gary Knokleberg and Rev. Roger McQuistion officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 16 from 2 until 5 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at church. A memorial is being established.
