Judy (nee Lindholm) Gurgel was born October 12, 1946 in Watertown, Minnesota and grew up in the nearby town of Delano, Minnesota. On June 14, 2019, Judy was taken to heaven.
The most important thing to know about Judy was that she had a very strong faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ, who paid for everyone’s sins by his suffering and death on the cross.
Judy taught in three different Wisconsin Synod grade schools, with most of her years being spent teaching kindergarten at Martin Luther School in Neenah. When Parkinson’s Disease took hold, she was forced to stop teaching, but continued to work at Faith Day Care in Appleton.
Judy enjoyed going to the cabin at beautiful Agate Lake in Minnesota, and also loved stamping cards. She made them with fellow stampers for the shut-ins at Mount Olive Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church, both in Appleton.
Judy was married to Don Gurgel at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Delano, Minnesota on June 21, 1969, and passed away just a week before their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The couple was blessed with six children, one of whom went to heaven in infancy.
She is survived by her husband: Don Gurgel of Appleton; five children: Leah (fiancé Chris) Williams, Brett (Martina) Gurgel, Maddi (Aric) Wilson, Missi (Andy) Esler, and Heidi (Cliff) Silwamba; ten grandchildren; and two brothers: Joe (Dawn) Lindholm and Rev. Oliver (Betty) Lindholm.
The Christian Funeral Service for Judy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church, located at 530 W. Parkway Boulevard in Appleton, with Rev. Mark Henke officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday morning, June 29, from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church.
