Judith Ellen Brightman, lovingly known as Judy, departed this world on March 6, 2024, after a short and brave journey with progressive frontotemporal dementia. Born in 1952 to Charles Lux and Dorothy Hearden, Judy's indomitable spirit and zest for life touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In an era when societal norms sought to define her, Judy carved her path with determination and fearlessness matched only by her booming laugh, broad smile, and generous heart.
After graduating from Menasha High School in 1970, Judy began a long career with Kimberly Clark, first as a security guard, then in various roles in the mill at the Lakeview Plant – she even drove a forklift! Judy retired in 2006 from an administrative role in scheduling.
Nothing was more important to Judy than being a mom and a grandma. Even as dementia began to trap her memory, Judy was always ready to join her family for a meal out, a movie night in, or an exciting afternoon of youth sports.
Her interests were as diverse as her accomplishments in life. Judy had a lifelong love for horses and was an avid equestrian, grooming, riding, and showing horses into her 60s. Judy was known for her quilting, embroidery, and crocheting. Through her quilts and afghans, Judy leaves a legacy of love and happiness in fabric and yarn that certainly spans the globe. Judy loved nature and animals, and she could often be found peacefully listening to the birds in her garden alongside her loyal canine companions. She loved to read, often finishing two books in a weekend. She was always eager for football season – Go Pack! Judy loved (really loved) a sweet treat. She hated (really hated) peas, and never, ever forgot that fact.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kathy, and sweet pup, Tucker. She is survived by her loving son, Clint Brightman; devoted daughter-in-law, Veronica Brightman; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; who are comforted in knowing Judy has her memory, voice, and smile again in heaven.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Care Partners on French Road and the Compassus Hospice team for their kindness and dedication to Judy in her final years.
