Judy Bixby, age 80 of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday December 11, 2023.
Judy was born in Appleton on March 17, 1943, daughter of the late Lawrence R. Selig, Sr. and the late Agnes Martha (Kozlowski) Selig. On August 5, 1961, she married Philip T. Bixby at St. Therese Catholic Church. They had been sweethearts since the 6th grade there and married at age 18.
Judy worked at many different places throughout her life. Some of her vocations included working a variety of positions at Super Bowl, bartending at Brandy’s Bar, and working in the greenhouse at Gary’s Flowerland.
Judy enjoyed camping, spending time with friends and family, and a little bit of gambling here and there. In her younger years, she spent a lot of time bowling, playing cards with her “card group,” and snowmobiling with her husband and four kids, three of them on a homemade “snow sled.” She will be remembered by many for all the good times that were had when she was around (especially for the “slippery moss” when camping). She could always take a good ribbing from the guys!
Judy is survived by three children: Julie (Bruce) Bixby-Wendt of Morrison; Michael (Danielle) Bixby of Appleton; Lisa (Scooter) Wians of Appleton; twelve grandchildren: Johanna Bixby, Nicole (Nicholas) Trebesch, Eric Wendt, Megan (Jordan) Massart, Matthew Wendt, Tasha Bixby, Nathan Bixby, Matthew Scott, Christine Scott, Tyler Wians-Bixby (Katherine), Kimberly Wians-Bixby, Amber (Corey) Greaves; 11+ greatgrandchildren: Astarte Kunz, Ember Bixby, Liam Schulze, Dillon Bixby, Coltin Friestrom, Owen Friestrom, Logan Trebesch, Emily Trebesch, Charlie Trebesch, Hazel Massart, Kyla Hurley, and a future Massart baby due in February.
Judy is also survived by a sister: Joyce Drier of Appleton; brothers-in-law: Ronald (Alanne Baerson) Bixby of New York and Jim Birchler of Junction City. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband: Philip T. Bixby, Sr.; her parents: Larry and Agnes Selig; her oldest son: Philip "Skippy" Bixby, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law: Lawrence “Junior” Selig and Marguerite “Muggs” Selig; brother-in-law: Frank Drier; sister-in-law: Elizabeth "Betty" Birchler; three nephews: Ricky Drier, Scott Drier, Noel Petit; niece: Linda “Lynn” S. Murray; and some really great friends and other close family members.
A special thanks to Tom Drier, Beth Wolfgram and Dennis and Carla Fulcer for doing so many things for her over the years.
A funeral service for Judy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
