Judy Schroeder was called home to the arms of her loving Lord Jesus on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at a Madison hospital. Our gracious God granted her sixty-eight years on this earth. Judy was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, on January 7, 1940, daughter of the late Fred and Lydia (Pohlman) Wantoch. She was a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther High School and Dr. Martin Luther College, both in New Ulm, Minnesota. Judy taught school for a total of forty years: two years in Fairfax, Minnesota, a year at the Appleton YMCA, and thirty-seven years (most of them in the kindergarten classroom) were spent at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran School in Appleton, where she instructed her precious students in the truths of God's word. Judy retired at the end of the 2007 school year. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, where she sang in the church choir, was a member of the handbell choir, and was a regular at Bible class. She loved collecting butterflies, following the Milwaukee Brewers, making her own greeting cards, fishing at the lake, and taking long walks with her beloved dog Trixie.
Judy is survived by her husband: Don Schroeder of Appleton; two children: Shari Schroeder of Appleton and John Schroeder of Madison; two sisters: Barb Petersen of Stanton, Nebraska, and Mardy (David) Vosbeck of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law: Ellen (Richard) Radley of Greenville, Phyllis Schultz of Appleton, and Betty Jane Schroeder of Appleton; her dear friend: Kathy Berger of Appleton; an aunt: Verona Wantoch of Norfolk, Nebraska, and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Martin, a brother-in-law Robert Petersen, brothers-in-law Lawrence Schroeder and Kenneth (Carole Buxton) Schroeder, sisters-in-law Iris Schroeder and Betty (Emery) Eggenberger, Don's parents Edward and Verna (Plamann) Schroeder, and Judy's dog Yogi.
The Christian Funeral for Judy will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton with Rev. Kenneth Frey and Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.
The family would like to thank the many relatives, friends, and neighbors for all of the support, meals, and prayers that were offered during Judy's illness. Your thoughtfulness means the world to us, and we will never forget everything that you have done.
