Joyce Clara Nyman

March 31, 1928 — October 20, 2024

Appleton

Joyce Clara Nyman, 96, passed away on October, 20, 2024 after a short illness. She was born in Appleton, WI on March 31, 1928 to James and Clara (Boyle) Martin. Clara passed away shortly after giving birth and Joyce was adopted by George and Katherine (Boyle) Nyman.

Joyce attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Appleton and graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School in Menasha in 1946. She accredited all her future achievements to the fine education she received from both these schools. Following high school, Joyce was hired at Fox River Paper Company in Appleton as a clerk typist and retired in 1993, after 47 years, as a Human Resource Manager and assistant to the President. She assisted in founding the Fox River Credit Union before their merging into Community First Credit Union.

Following retirement Joyce joined the LEAVEN agency as a volunteer and completed 26+ years there. She had over 7,000 hours of volunteering and received the title of Volunteer of the Year in 2000. Joyce was the President of the Board of Directors at Windsor East Condominiums in Menasha from the 1980s to 2003. She was also an instructor at Weight Losers in Appleton, after losing 120 lbs.

Hot air ballooning was an event Joyce and long time friend, Carole Ristow, enjoyed. They participated in California, Australia and twice at the International Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over the years, they did a lot of traveling covering the United States and 20 other countries, with their last trip being to the Holy Land. For over 20 years, Joyce and Carole held a weekly Sunday Communion Service at Oakridge Gardens and Gardenview Nursing Facilities in Menasha. Joyce was also a lector at St. Mary Church in Menasha for many years at the 7:00 am mass on Sunday and services on Tuesday each week.

As all of her relatives and friends were aware, Joyce had a passion for Mickey Mouse, and often bragged that they were born in the same year. Joyce also had eight god children and always said “they must have run out of Catholics.” She also sponsored many children through World Vision and Unbound.

Joyce is survived by nieces and nephews Melvin Jr. “Butch” (Mary) Nyman, Alan Nyman, Margaret “Peg” (Greg) Otis, Kimball “Kim” (Grace) Nyman, Mary Hewins; several great- nieces, nephews and other relatives and the many friends she made at Heritage Woods.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, adoptive parents, brother Melvin (Marjorie) Nyman Sr., sister Jewell Lesser, great nephew William “Bill” Nyman and longtime friend Carole Ristow.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 2nd St. in Menasha, WI with Father Michael Lightner officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of Mass. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joyce's name to LEAVEN Fox Cities or a charity of your choosing. Joyce was a very special lady who was well loved. She was strong, independent and fun. She enjoyed talking to people and making new friends. She cared deeply about everyone. Joyce will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Woods for their attentive care and kindness to Joyce and her Doctor Jamie Renard and her nursing staff.
