Joyce L. Machak (Sawyer)”Grammy”, 87, was born to her loving parents, William and Louise (Lehman)Sawyer on August 12, 1928 in Menasha. Her early life was interrupted during her Menasha High School years so she could work to bring extra income into the family. She took many jobs, with the Zwickers Knitting pursing her love of knitting and crocheting. Her career and personal life were spent making hats, scarves, socks, afghans, baby blankets, company logos and images she translated into works of art, made of yarn, spurn from her nimble hands, crochet hooks and knitting needles. Beneficiaries of her work were hospital birthing centers, Hope House in Milwaukee, and countless family and friends who received 1000's of homespun love.
Joyce and her friends met a bartender and his friends after work one day. A kiss on the cheek and two weeks later, taking a train to Chicago with the love of her life, Joyce and Francis Machak were married on July 15, 1947.
Joyce is survived by her children Charles E. Machak, Michael Machak, Susan V. (Gregory) Daniels, her grandchildren, Cody M. Machak; Nicholas C. Machak; Rebecca S. Daniels, great-grandson, Grayson O. Machak, sisters, Betty Tremmel, Evelyn Sanders, and Robert (Carla) Sawyer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Machak, her parents, William and Louise Sawyer, her children, William F. Machak, Mark D. Machak, her sister, Diane Wells, her brother Charles Sawyer, her brothers-in-law, Louis Tremmel, Charlie Wells and Norm Sanders.
