Barber, Joyce E.
Joyce E. Barber, age 69, of Appleton, died unexpectedly, Thursday morning, August 18, 2005. She was born May 15, 1936, to the late Thomas F. and Berniece E. (Russell) Barber, in Oshkosh, grew up in Clintonville, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, in 1958. Joyce began her teaching career in Appleton at the old McKinley Elementary School, for one year and for 35 years at Edison Elementary School, where she team taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, with Nancy Berglund. She retired in 1994, with 36 years of teaching for the Appleton Public School System. Teaching was a very important part of her life and she always gave 200% in anything that she did. The love and nurturing of children was very important to her. In the early years she had creative ways of loving and encouraging her niece and nephews. After her retirement she did volunteer teaching at the Log School House, now situated at Bubolz Nature Center. Joyce loved sports, especially the Packers. She enjoyed working outside and was very mechanically inclined. Following her retirement, Joyce spent most of her time at the cottage on White Lake, near Weyauwega, where she loved driving the pontoon and taking her dog Skeezix and friends for rides. She was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. She is survived by her special friend, Nancy Berglund, Appleton / White Lake, Weyauwega; a sister, JoAnn Dopson, Merrimack, NH; a brother, Thomas Barber, Arden Hills, MN; three nephews, Jeffrey Dopson, Tim Dopson and Mike Dopson; a niece, Sherry Dopson; her dog Skeezix III; special friends, Betty Werner and Mary Toppins; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Harry Dopson. Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 21, 2005, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, with Reverend Kenneth L. Frey and Reverend Jeffrey Holtan, of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Waupaca, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, from 3:00 pm, until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
