EVERS, JOSEPHINE MARIE

Josephine M. Evers, age 100, died on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Franciscan Care Center, Appleton. Josephine was born on May 1, 1904, in the Little Chute to the late Arnold and Lena (Williamson) Van Handel. She married Frank H. Evers, on November 25, 1926; he preceded her in death. Josephine was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was employed at Appleton Woolen Mills (Voith) for over 45 years as a splicer of paper machine felts. Joseph was also a homemaker and seamstress who make may wedding gowns, communion dresses and all kinds of alterations.

Survivors include her daughter, Isabelle (Kenneth E.) Kopiske, Sr., Appleton; her five grandchildren, Timothy (Shirley) Kopiske, Sr.; Maureen (Donald) Reinert; Thomas (Linda) Kopiske; Michael (Tina) Kopiske; and Kenneth (Tammy) Kopiske, Jr; eight great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and their families; many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her brothers, Theodore and John Frances; her sisters, Gertrude Verkuilen and Margaret Phillips; sisters-in-law, Lorraine(Ed) and Geraldine (Henry).

Josephine was preceded in death by her sons, Gerald and Robert; her brothers, Henry, Martin, Joseph A. and Edward and Henry P. Van Handel; her infant brother, Henry; her sisters, Agnes and Mary; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Ted), Arlene and Leona (Henry), Mary (John F.) and Harriet (Joe A.); and her brothers-in-law, Joseph (Mary) Van Handel, Jacob (Gertrude)Verkuilen, Sylvester (Margaret) Phillips.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. John Catholic Church Cemetery, Little Chute. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Theresa Lee, the staff at Franciscan Care Center for their loving care, and especially to the good people of St. Mary Catholic Church for their prayers and help with getting her to and from the special prayer services that were so important in her life. A memorial has been established in Josephine’s name to benefit the Building Fund at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton.
