Josephine F. Mischke

August 13, 1914 — March 10, 2003

Josephine F. Mischke “Jo”
nee Coupe
Appleton

Age 88, died on Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Franciscan Care Center. Josephine was born on August 13, 1914, daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Bailey) Coupe. She married Edward Mischke on September 19, 1936, and he preceded her in death in 1964. Jo was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, and was formerly a member of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Parishes. She enjoyed a wide range of employment in administrative and retail sales positions. Jo took particularly great pleasure in operating her own candy store, Jo’s Sweet Shop, on College Avenue. She was active in the Girl Scouts, Lady Elks, the Red Cross and the Visually Impaired Group at the Thompson Community Center. Jo loved dancing, singing and the outdoors, especially hiking, travel and adventure. She was an avid bowler and, for a time, was one of the best female bowlers in the area. Jo enjoyed being with people, especially her beloved family. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Carol (John) Rowlands; grandchildren, Patricia, James and Mary Kasten; Roree Van Duyne; Scott (Lynne) Rowlands; Ryan (Stephanie) Rowlands; Kari (Michael) Carter; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tania, Zachary and Jacob Van Duyne; and Alyssa and Kristin Rowlands. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jo was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Josephine Louise and Larry Kasten; her 2 step-sons, Melvin and Eddie; her 3 brothers, Vincent, Charles and Jim; her 3 sisters, Agnes, Margaret and Vera; and all of their spouses. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 14, 2003 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Family and friends will be received at the church on Friday, March 14, from 9 until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit St. Thomas More and Franciscan Care Center would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Unit 2 at Franciscan Care Center for their loving care of Jo. Jo had a quick wit and was full of energy. She had a thirst for everything life had to offer and the determination to go after it.
