Age 96, died on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at Century Oaks in Darboy. Joseph was born on March 12, 1905, son of the late Henry and Ida (Panzenhagen) Bergholz. He married Minnie Marcks on May 2, 1928 at the parsonage at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, and they enjoyed over 66 years of marriage, until she preceded him in death in 1995. Joseph was employed at Pure Milk and Driesen Dairy. He then began work at Hewitt Machine Shop, Neenah, where he retired in 1965. Joseph was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He loved to play cards; especially sheep head. Joseph will be greatly missed by his 2 daughters, Verla Liebzeit; Suzanne Bergholz and her friend Darrell Behnke; his son, Nathan (Marlyn) Bergholz, all of Appleton; 6 grandchildren, Tom (Ann) Liebzeit; Scott Liebzeit, and his friend Laurie; Todd Bergholz and his friend Leah; Faye Bergholz and her friend Dave; Bonnie (Brian) Atkinson; Becky (Gary) Goland; 7 great-grandchildren, Jodi and Joshua Liebzeit; Maxwell and Nathaniel Atkinson; Tanner and Lakin Goland; Dustin Bergholz and his daughter Bree; and 3 sisters-in-law, Juretta Johnson; Beatrice Wirth; Sybil Marcks. He is further survived by nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his 2 sisters, an infant sister Sarah and Regina Wassmann; his grandson, Jay Bergholz; a son-in-law, Henry Liebzeit; and many sisters and brothers-in-law. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 22, 2001, at MT. OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 East Florida Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Joel Zank officiating. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit Mt. Olive are appreciated.
