Joseph V. Shablak

Age 86, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the Appleton Medical Center. Joe was born in Green Bay on October 24, 1914, son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Roskowski) Shablak. On October 9, 1935, Joe married the former Rosella Dery in Kaukauna; she survives. In his younger years, Joe was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper and by Appleton Papers. Later, he was employed for many years as a field engineer for Fox Tractor, retiring in 1976. During World War II, Joe served his country as a member of the United States Army, and was a 50-year member of the Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, and many will remember him as an expert television repairman. Joe was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, and over the years held every church office available. Twice he served as the congregational president. During his active years at Trinity, he served his Lord under the direction of at least four different pastors.

Joe is survived by his wife of sixty-five years: Rosella Shablak of Kaukauna; a sister: Elizabeth Wallace of Zion, Illinois; and by a special nephew: Greg Dery of Kaukauna. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and by many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, by sisters Dorothy (Donald) Conroy, Helen (Claude) Zirbes, Priscilla (William) Hare, Marion Shablak, and Joan Shablak, and by brothers Stephen (Verna) Shablak, Frank Shablak, and Bernard (Elaine) Shablak.

Funeral services for Joe will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at TRINITY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 804 Grignon Street in Kaukauna with Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service. The members of VFW Post #3319 will provide military memorial rites following the services in church.
