Joseph R. Schmitt, 61, of Kaukauna, passed away on Saturday November 13, 2021 at his home in Kaukauna. He was born on April 7, 1960 in Kaukauna. He was the son of Wilmer and Joyce(Dickermann) Schmitt. Until recently, Joe resided in Appleton for many years.
Some of his favorite activities included: taking rides on the city bus, horseback riding and barrel racing, playing Yahtzee, karaoke, going to the casino, listening to rock and country music, and helping out on farms. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Joseph is survived by his (4) brothers, Daniel(Doreen) Schmitt , Steven Schmitt, James Schmitt, and John Schmitt, all of Kaukauna, (5) sisters, Jamie (Chris) Schmitt of Appleton, Mary(Robert) Williamson of Appleton, Anna Schmitt of Green Bay, Suzanna Landreth of Kaukauna, Catherine (Chad) Baumgartner of Marion, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Paul, a favorite uncle Carlton Schmitt, his special friends Jim and Sheri, and numerous other friends and relatives.
The funeral service will be held on Monday November 22, 2021 at 7:00p.m. at Wichmann Funeral Home Fargo Chapel(400 W. Wisconsin Ave., Kaukauna, WI 54130) with Deacon Steve VandeHey presiding. Visitation will be held on Monday November 22 from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00a.m. at St.Mary’s Cemetery in Kaukauna.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Theda Care Cancer Center, especially Dr. Yao and Dr. Fernando. We would also like to thank Dr. Thomas Duncan, Joe’s internal medicine physician, and Outagamie County Mental Health Services for taking good care of Joe over the years.
Despite all of the hardships Joey has faced throughout his life, he has always held a positive mindset. We will truly miss his positive attitude and his outlook on life until we see him again.
