Appleton
Age 68, passed away at Appleton Medical Center of complications from pulmonary fibrosis on Monday, December 10, 2007. He was born on July 27, 1939 in Navan, County Meath, Ireland, the son of the late Patrick and Maura (Mullen) Halpin. In 1958, Joe immigrated to the United States and proudly volunteered and served in the United States Army. On September 10, 1966 he married Barbara Biselx in Appleton. In 1967 Joe became a U.S. Citizen. He had a remarkably wide range of talents including every facet of construction, electronics, and mechanics. He was particularly proud of his career as an airline pilot for Air Wisconsin.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Sean Halpin of Appleton and his girlfriend Kelli Kossel of Oshkosh; brothers; Fergus (Kathleen) Halpin, George (Phyllis) Halpin, Donal (Olive) Halpin, Brendan Halpin, Vincent Halpin, and David Halpin; all of Ireland; sisters: Anne (James) Dougan of England, Helen (William) Fennessy of Ireland, Frances (Joe) Varris of England, Joan (Anthony) Russell of Ireland, and Mary Halpin of Ireland; brother-in-law, Bruce Biselx of Appleton; four nephews: Eamonn, Dermot, Barry, and Shane; 14 nieces: Grainne, Ailish, Deirdre, Jackie, Denise, Fiona, Carmel, Linda, Siobhan, Joan, Pauline, Ailish, Grainne, and Niamh; and adopted aunt, Mary Coenen of Green Bay. He is preceded in death by his parents, and Barbara’s parents, E. Les and Florence Biselx.
The funeral liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with Fr. Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Friends will be received at the church, through the parish center doors, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton.
