Age 97, died on Saturday evening, November 30, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on March 5, 1905 in Kaukauna the son of the late Gregor and Anna (Hurkman) Deering. On May 20, 1929 he married Mary Bongers in Little Chute. She passed away on October 24, 1998. He owned and operated a dairy farm most of his life in the Kaukauna area, and had been employed at various jobs after he quit farming. Joe was recognized for 75 years of membership with the Catholic Order of Foresters, and was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.
He is survived by his daughter Eileen Nackers of Wrightstown, his son Jerry (Mary Kay) Deering of Little Chute, ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, two brothers, four sisters, a son-in-law Albert Nackers, and a daughter-in-law Donna Deering.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna with the Rev. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
