John was brought into his earthly life on June 21, 1939, and called home to eternal rest on November 26, 2023, at the age of 84.
He worked on the family farm with his parents through his teen years. When Henry and Laura retired from the farm, they moved into Hortonville right across from the toy factory. John worked at the toy factory and with the help from a friend he bought his first car, a Ford Model A. This allowed him access to attend a two year business school.
With the education, he became a salesman for Wisconsin Michigan Power Company. He sold electric appliances and worked in customer service.
In 1962 he met Judy Wunderlich and they were married in 1963. John and Judy moved to Appleton and raised their two children, Scot and Lori.
John was hired as an underwriter at Home Mutual Insurance. His side business was John’s Popcorn on Wisconsin Avenue during the summer. In winter he worked in the paint department at Sears and taught insurance courses at Fox Valley Technical Institute. He was later hired as an underwriter by Integrity Mutual Insurance. John retired as an executive at Integrity. After he retired, he became a licensed commercial real estate agent for Pfefferle Management.
John enjoyed camping at Pine Grove, fishing, and playing with his kids. John and Judy were season ticket holders for the Packers and also cheered on the Badgers. Winters were spent snowmobiling with friends and family as members of the Hill and Valley Riders. John enjoyed flipping houses, running, biking, gardening, and was an active member at St. Pius Catholic Church. Above all, his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren. John’s favorite holiday tradition was receiving Christmas gifts that would then be donated to local charities.
John is survived by son, Scot (Mya) and his daughter, Lori (Peter) Schwecke; grandchildren: Emily (Cory) Bohman, Megan (fiancé Tony Bitar) Schwecke, Holly Schwecke, Zackary Yohr, Emma Yohr, and Brandon Yohr; and great grandchildren Raina and Evan Bohman.
John is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Frances, step-mother Laura, and his wife Judith Anne (Wunderlich).
