TRUITT, JOHN WINTER
“JACK”
John Winter Truitt, age 41, of Appleton, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his home. Jack was born on September 17, 1963, in Salisbury, Maryland. He developed non-Hodgkins lymphoma nine years ago which was successfully treated at the M. D. Anderson Clinic in Houston, Texas, but he developed leukemia and received numerous treatments at Anderson and Appleton Medical Center. Jack was always pleased with the care from the staff at Appleton Medical Center and at M. D. Anderson. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald B. Truitt, Jr. of Salisbury, Maryland and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerald B. Truitt, Sr. of Ocean City, Maryland; and the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Winter Owens of Salisbury, Maryland. Besides his parents, Jack is survived by a brother, Gerald B. Truitt, III of Dover, Delaware; an uncle, The Reverend G. William Truitt of Laurel, Delaware; and several cousins who were very close. Jack graduated from Wicomico Senior High School in Salisbury, and attended the University of Maryland, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Business Administration. He joined the Lankford Sysco Food Service Group in Pocomoke, Maryland, working out of Wilmington, Delaware, then moving to Annapolis to expand its territory. When Sysco bought the Smelkinson Food Service Group he joined them to introduce the Sysco line. In 1995 he joined Sysco Corporate in Houston, Texas, marketing Sysco Brands nationally. He moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, to join Anchor Foods, now McCain Snack Food Division, until going on disability last year. Jack enjoyed touring, extensively traveling in the United States for both business and pleasure. He also traveled outside the country, particularly in the UK and France. His favorite city was Paris, which he visited on numerous occasions. Each spring and fall, Jack went to Indian Island in New Brunswick, Canada, to visit with Bob Schneider and his mother Dorothy; he also reconnected with his brush mowing skills there. On River Drive he opened his home and grounds for neighborhood social events. Numerous neighbors have said before Jack moved in they were just a group of houses, but thru Jack they became a neighborhood of friends. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005, at ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 100 North Drew Street, Appleton, Wisconsin, with The Rev. Patrick Twomey officiating. A memorial service will also be held in Salisbury, Maryland at a later date. Jack suggested contributions be made to the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society and strongly encouraged people to become bone marrow transplant donors.
