John Doerfler, age 65, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. John was born May 21, 1941, son of the late John and Mary Jane (Kilpatrick) Doerfler. On June 10, 1961, he married Bonnie Sim in Appleton. For many years, John worked as a mechanic in the area, and many will remember him from Barry’s Standard Service and Lemke’s Auto. Later, John also delivered parts for SPI Distributing. He enjoyed NASCAR, collecting model hot rods, and reading. John would read anything and everything he could get his hands on, but especially enjoyed mysteries. Another of his great loves was cooking – he loved to prepare meals for family and friends; and if he wasn’t cooking, it was a good bet that he was watching the Food Network on television, looking for new ideas.
John is survived by his wife: Bonnie Doerfler of Appleton; two children: Jeffrey (Linda) Doerfler of Appleton and his Travis; and Jody (Peter) Running of Winneconne and their children Andrew and Brittany Running; two brothers: Bruce (Julie) Doerfler of Appleton and Dave Doerfler of Appleton; two brothers-in-law: George (Gerri) Sim of Illinois and Bruce (Dee) Sim of Neenah; a sister-in-law: Candace (Craig) Danielson of Colorado; and a special aunt: Harriet Wydeven of Neenah. John is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services for John will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, with Rev. David Lyle of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the services.
