John Van Rooy, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 12, 2007 at a local nursing home. John was born in the Netherlands on December 26, 1911, son of the late Adrian and Hendrieka (Vander Heiden) Van Ven Rooy. On August 2, 1938, John married the former Rosalie Kohl in Appleton; she preceded him in death in 1996. From 1943 until 1973, John operated a dairy farm north of Kaukauna, and even after his retirement was able to live on the farm until just this past fall. John will be remembered as a talented man who could build just about anything out of steel. All he needed was a picture in his mind and a little time in his shop, and the project would be complete! In his younger years he also enjoyed square dancing, served on the Apple Creek School Board, and loved to garden.
Survivors include four children: Paul (Gloria) Van Rooy of Madison; Marjorie (Bob) Vogels of Wausaukee; Ken (Helen) Van Rooy of Kaukauna; Carl (Jan) Van Rooy of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren: Michelle (John) Burton, Angela (Jackson) Njau, Renee Bisbee, Jill (Pat) Wilcox, Sue (Harold) Trudeau, Bill (Sarah) Vogels, Gwen (Madan) Kandula, Joe (Tara) Van Rooy, John (Erin) Van Rooy, Adam (Becky) Van Rooy, and Tim Van Rooy; and fourteen great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his special friend Exilda Valentine of Freedom; a sister: Annie Kieffer of Kaukauna; and three sisters-in-law: Minnie Ven Rooy, Vi Van Rooy, and Betty Van Roy. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosalie in 1996, and brothers Lambert, Martin, and Bill.
The funeral liturgy for John will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and again Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of the services. There will be a parish prayer service Monday evening at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
John was a very kind man whose wisdom will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
