John LeRoy Obermann, Jr, age 75 of Appleton, WI died peacefully on April 5, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born on July 4, 1948 to John Sr. and Janet (von Gnechten) Obermann in Milwaukee, WI. John spent most of his childhood years growing up in Tomahawk, WI.. His junor year of High School he moved to Wausau where he met a number of life long friends. After school John enlisted in the U.S Air Force and served during the war in Vietnam. In August of 1968, he married Sharon Stachnik, the love of his life. John settled back into Wausau after the service where spent his career working for Domtar Paper. After his retirement, John and Sharon moved up to their home in Minocqua, WI.
John enjoyed playing cards with his and Sharon’s friends. He loved to travel across the US with his wife and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. Most of all, he loved spending time with his son, Chad; his 3 grandsons, Caleb, Colin, and Cody; and his nephews. He especially enjoyed taking them out on the lake to go fishing.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Janet Obermann; his sister, Michal (George) Pozorski; and his nephew, Phillip Beese.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon Obermann; his son, Chad Obermann (Angela H.); his grandsons, Caleb Obermann (Gracie B.), Colin Obermann (Brettyn H.), and Cody Obermann; his sister, Barb (Jim) Beese; his brothers, Larry (Anne) Obermann, Ted Obermann, and Dan Obermann; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
A funeral visitation will be held for John from 9-11 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2330 E. Calumet St, Appleton, WI 54915 with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM preceding military honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a memorial fund being established in his name or sending something green that can continue to grow.
John will always be remembered for his kindness, warm smile, and infectious laugh.
