Age 80, passed away at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Olson Hall, fifth floor, in King, Wisconsin on September 2, 2007. He was born August 5, 1927 the son of the late Gustave and Mary (Nemecheck) Hanges. On August 5, 1948 he married Geneva Hopfensperger in Darboy. John dedicated his life to serving his country for 23 years in the Army, Air Force and National Guard. He was a decorated 1st Class Sergeant of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon his retirement, John worked for Presto Products. He was an avid bowler and fisherman.

John is survived by his wife, Geneva, children; Linda (Dale) Spoehr of Colorado, Jonathan (Christine) Hanges of Appleton, Keith (Mary) Hanges of Appleton and Tina (Gary) Ferro of California, grandchildren; Rebbeca, Joseph, Michael, Joshua, Jessica, Jared, Adam, Courtney and Emily and great-grandchildren; Thomas, Patrick, Shjon, Domannik and Kalaeb. John is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Hanges.

The funeral service will be held at 6:00p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME TRI COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kurt Kovanen and officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment services will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 10:00a.m.

The family of John wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King for all their excellent care and support for John.
