HAYNES, JOHN I.
John I. Haynes, age 71, of Menasha, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. John was born on February 7, 1937, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to the late John and Lois (Willoughby) Haynes. He married Jane Henderson on April 13, 1963, in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan. John attended Louisiana State University and graduated from Hillsdale College in 1964. John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He was a noted football player at LSU, the U.S. Army team and Hillsdale. John's career involved industrial sales and management; he retired from Mainline Industrial Distributors in 1999. He continued to enjoy football throughout his life, as well as golf, skiing and tennis. John was an avid supporter of the YMCA and was president of the “Y's Men” in 1976. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jane; his children, Susanne (Jim) Bruce, Appleton, and Andrew Haynes, St. Paul, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Bruce; his brother, Charles (Marjean) Haynes, West Covina, California; his sister, Beverly (Bud) Price, Corunna, Michigan; his sisters-in-law, Sherry Haynes, Davison, Michigan; Susan Sanders, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; and Andrea Henderson, Tucson, Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and his beloved dog, Libby. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Langley, and his brother, Thomas Haynes. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. Jane B. Anderson officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in John's name to benefit the Evans Scholarship Fund (c/o Northshore Golf Club, Menasha) or the Appleton YMCA. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Chuck McKee and his staff and the staff on the Third Floor of AMC for their loving care.
