John F. Hartel “Jack”
Menasha
Age 80, died on Monday, February 19, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. John was born on March 18, 1920 in Wauwatosa, WI, son of the late Fredrick and Marie (Wilke) Hartel. Jack married Margaret Stoiber in Wauwatosa on June 14, 1947, and they have enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They lived in Brookfield for 35 years before moving to the Fox Valley after Jack retired from a career in photofinishing. Jack was a member of the 105th U.S. Horse Cavalry, before serving his country in the Army Air Corp at the start of WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 38. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and bowling. He was very proud of his family, and will be greatly missed. Jack is survived by his wife Margaret; a daughter, Mary Beth (Mike) Arneson, Appleton; two sons, Gregory J. (Rita) Hartel, Nebraska; William F. (Jennifer) Hartel, Menasha; six grandchildren, Tara (Chad) Mayfield and Kristi Hartel, both of Nebraska; Brian Arneson, Texas; Malinda Arneson, Appleton; Matthew Hartel and Kathleen Hartel, both of Menasha; a great-grandchild, Dylan Mayfield, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Johnson, Jackson, WI; Johanna Ritzman, Brookfield; Louise (Ralph) Robert, New Berlin; three brothers-in-law, Engelbert (Lois) Stoiber, Arizona; Thomas (Mary) Stoiber, Athelstane, WI; and John (Patricia) Stoiber, Colgate, WI. Further survived by nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, June Marie Hartel. John’s Funeral Mass will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 516 DePere Street, Menasha, with Father Charlie Zabler officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in John’s name.
